Well, as I say every Sunday morning, “Hi, my name’s Jeff.” As I am also wont to say, “I’m just a guy.” I was born in the Ville while my Dad was attending university there and my mom was chasing me around. We lived in married student housing which is where the Strong Science building is today. I grew up in church (thanx mom and dad) and always believed that Jesus was the son of God. But, that being said, He had no direct bearing on my life. He was cool, I was good and I deserved to go to heaven when I died (which was hopefully a long way away!). How arrogant was I? Well, a friend or two thankfully told me that no one was good enough (which really made me mad). How dare they!
Thankfully, Jesus made me miserable enough with the life I was living and one late night/early morning back in 1988 I asked Him to take control of the life I’d been screwing up and my journey with Jesus began. Not long after that Tommy Stanley sat on my lap at a small group (not a method you will read about in any books) and said, “You’re coming with me Jeff.” And that’s how I learned about discipleship. So, any annoying Tommy traits I have…blame him…haha!
Long story short (which isn’t my forte) I now do my best to love Jesus, love my wife, love my kids, love my friends, love Jesus church and love the people Jesus misses most so that they might love Him too! As part of loving His church, He has me leading a great group of humans known as Living Hope church. Oh yeah, I am by the grace of God a cancer-survivor and am thankful to God that He allowed me to have cancer so that I might wake-up from my lazy following of Him. And, one more thing (you’ll find I do this often), I believe everyone is meant to live out their following Jesus as Lord-Savior-Treasure (thanx John Piper) as a fully engaged member of a local church. You can comment if you’d like on that proposition and I will gladly try to win you over =)
Soon!
Jeff
